Best Skincare Products

March 2, 2016

I have struggled over years with my skin which is acne prone, I have tried many products over the years some with great success and some not so much. The product I used the most was ProActive, I know I used it throughout all my college years. It worked well and was within my budget at that time. But with time I learnt that great skincare is not only about using products that are designed to keep acne at bay; you have to moisturize moisturize and Proactive was very drying to my skin. I have oily combination skin and have genetically inherited acne. With my current skin care routine I have to say that I haven’t seen my skin look this good and I NEVER breakout anymore.  My family and friends are always asking what I have been doing with skincare and I thought I’d share my skincare routine with all of you. These are the products that have worked for me. I try to research as much I can on product and sample before I decide to buy. Some of the products can be a bit pricy, but with most a little will go a long way and I try never to skimp on skincare because skin is Forever. Here are my skin care steps are:

Washing: Skin cleansing is one of the main steps to great, radiant and acne free skin. So make sure you get a cleanser that gets all the dirt and grime off (makeup, debris, excess oil).  Nothing has worked for me better than the Acure Facial Cleansing gel. It leaves my skin soft and doesn’t strip the oils off the skin. Acure products are organic and sold at most Whole Foods stores.

Step 2:

Exfoliation: This is part of cleansing the skin that removes dead skin cells and preps the face for all the good stuff you will be putting on it after. It also eliminates any build up to review brighter and more radiant skin. I exfoliate at least once a week. I have always used the Clinique Exfoliating scrub from day 1. It’s an old faithful for me. I have never bothered to search for an alternative over the years since it does great for my skin. I also exfoliate my lips very other day. Lips are part of the skin and exfoliating them is important. For this I use the Lip Scrub by Sara Happ. It removes all the dead skin on the lips and leaves your lips supple, smooth and soft. I never used to do anything for my lips until an esthetician asked me, how do you clean your lips. From then onwards I learnt that lips are part of your skin and have to be treated as such.

Step 3:

Toning: You need a toner that balances, soothe the skin and removes any residues that might be left from washing and exfoliating. I try to avoid alcohol based toners because they can be drying to the skin. For this I use the Peter Thomas Roth toning lotion. This helps reduce my pores and calms my skin after cleansing and exfoliating.

Step 4:

Facial Mask: I use the Mask about every two weeks. For this I favor the Acure Organics Cell Stimulating Facial Mask. This is part of the cleaning cleaning that’s important to remove the dead skin cells which then helps with skin renewals and collagen production for plumper skin.

Step 5:

Serum/Oil: Serum is the skin protectant, help prevent environmental skin damage. I have always thought that a moisturizers is star of skin care. But I learnt that the serum is. Serums have all the active ingredients that do the skin regeneration.  You add the moisturizer on top of the serum to lock in moisture and enable your serum to activate and do it’s work. So it’s important to pick a good serum that has the ingredients you need for your skin depending on what you are trying to achieve. I am more interested in getting rid of brown spots and discoloration so I use a serum that has skin lightening. I use Natura Bisse diamond white serum.

Step 6:

Moisturize: This is to lock in skins moisture of for this I use the Gurlaim Orchide Imperiali Rich cream. I discovered this cream when I was reading an article on Into the Gloss on what skin care products Kim Kardashian uses for her skin. Say all you can about Kim but girl knows how to take care of her skin and face; I mean it’s her moneymaker. She says she uses this Gurlaim Orchide Imperiali Rich cream. I decided to research a bit on it but was disappointed that there were not many reviews out there for this product. At the price-point of $455 a jar I expected a lot of reviews. I guess the target market for it can’t be bothered with reviews. I went to my local Neiman Marcus and was able to get a sample that lasted me about 2 weeks. I was sold. My skin was supple, radiant and so smooth. You can see some of the Gurlaim Orchide Imperiali Rich cream reviews here on Makeup alley. They are not all rave reviews so you have to try the product and see for yourself it it’s going to work for you.

Step 7:

Eye cream: This is the part that I am still trying to figure out. I have tried countless eye serum and non of them have done miracles for my eyes. Most of them make my eyes well up and itch. I don’t know why. I know I need to nail this as I am not getting any younger. In the meantime, I just try to apply my moisturizer around my eye area. I do have to say that I have a rave review about the Shiseido ‘Benefiance WrinkleResist24’ Pure Retinol Express Smoothing Eye Mask. I have used these to remove the bags under my eyes when I have an event to attend, a bit meeting or going out on the town. Works miracles all the time. All the puffiness under my eyes disappear after 30minutes. Writing about this makes me think I should look into Shiseido eye creams, I have never tried them before. Maybe they might be on to something with the eye game since their eye mask works very well.

These are my seven steps to having the best skin and what I consider the best skincare products. What are some of the things and products that you can’t go without for your skin?

  1. I also use Clinique exfoliatig scrub and tru to moisturize morning and night. But I also drink as much water as I can. For an eye mask a use Rodial. Have a nice day!!!

  2. You always look so incredible, so I am paying attention and taking notes! Thanks for the recommendations.

  3. I have acne-prone skin as well and have struggled with post acne hyper-pigmentation for years. My skin got a lot better when i switched to korean skincare products and their skincare routine after trying products that didn’t do much in the past. I started drinking more organic teas and eating healthier foods.
I’ve seen good reviews about Acure products and also about the La Mer in your first photo but it’s way out of my budget range. Glad these products worked for you.
