I have been sick for almost a week and I kinda let the house go. As I was getting better I knew I was going to need a professional cleaner to come help me out since I wasn’t back to my 100% self and I couldn’t stand to live in the unkept space. I am an Amazon Prime member and an email came into my mailbox about a promotion they were having on Spring home Cleaning. Prior to receiving this email, I had no idea Amazon had this Home cleaning service. I went to their site and looked up the service, it had thousands upon thousand of reviews at 4.5 stars. I decided to sign up. So you just go to your Prime account and checkout through there and pick your service date and your windows of availability time blocks. I did that on Friday and the next available date was a Tuesday which I was happy with.
So the service I selected was a Deep cleaning and includes:
– Clean bathroom vanity, tub, mirrors, toilet, shower tracks, hand wipe bathroom baseboards, and exterior of bathroom cabinets
– Clean kitchen counters, sink, table, stove top, interior and exterior of microwave, exterior of fridge, oven (range hood and drip pans), and hand wipe exterior of kitchen cabinets
– Dusting of blinds, window sills, and light fixtures (within arms reach)
– Mopping, vacuuming all rooms, washing of interior windows and sliding glass door (within arms reach)
– Interior trash cans emptied and brought to outside trash can
– For extra cost, I also selected the interior of the Fridge and the Oven
So over the weekend as I waited and anticipated for my service, I arranged things around the house, some light cleaning and laundry so that when the cleaners come everything will be in their right place and all they have to do is clean.
The cleaners arrived within the slotted time window and there were two of them. Let me just say I was one of the unlucky ones who had a terrible experience, given that the Amazon Home cleaning service reviews are 4.5 stars. The cleaners (2 ladies) were very haste in their cleaning, they weren’t thorough. Since I work from home I was there to witness all of it. They were very noisy, having conversations with each other in a language I didn’t understand across from different rooms! When I politely asked them to keep it down since I work from home, they basically said upstairs is done, implying I should work from upstairs when my home office is downstairs. I never saw them clean the baseboards, the windows or dust the blinds, mind you I was there. These are items highlighted on the checklist that I received. They even had the nerve to tell me they did clean these when I asked as they were leaving. Anyhow, I signed for the services and they left, after about 1 hour 30 minutes. Just cleaning out a fridge alone should be at least 30 minutes and the same for an oven!
As soon as they left, I took pictures and called Amazon to give them my 2 cents. They immediately said they will open a case and they want me to send the pictures to review and decide the outcome. I think Amazon doesn’t employ these cleaners, they act as a gateway between local area cleaners and customers. I know that not all cleaners are the same and I just got the bad ones for that day, but I will never do the service again. I think they don’t have an incentive to do their best for repeat business as owner operated cleaning businesses and they rely on Amazon to deploy them to wherever location. I think Amazon can improve this service but creating a profile for each cleaner so that the reviews are for that specific cleaner instead of the umbrella review for the Cleaning service for all customers. I will be finding a good local cleaner to clean my house going forward. And the cost of this service was $179 but I paid $154 because they had a Spring cleaning “Promotion” going on.
